East is obliged to respond 2D waiting unless they have 8+ HCP and a "feature" worth describing. Your 4C suggestion makes sense. It tells West that they have at least 8 HCP and a long club suit. So, does W decide C is the suit and ask for Aces using 4NT Blackwood? If so, E responds 5D showing 1 so W knows that E has the AC and assumes at least 4 more clubs, probably 5 more given the 4C response. W counts 8 quick tricks in their hand (including the AC from partner). With E holding at least five more trump it is possible that those 5 trump can cover W's losers, but not guaranteed. So, W goes to 5NT asking for K's and E responds 6D showing the missing KH (and showing at least 7 HCP - so a few more HCP still unknown). W can confidently go to either 7NT or 7C and it's practically a lay down. N's lead is irrelevant and W is delighted to see the C support and the void. The hand makes 8NT easy (trick to spare). ;-)Joseph

Here's a fun one. South and North are out of the auction. South deals and passes and West can't stop counting points. They open 2C and East responds with what?Joseph
