Indeed an interesting hand. It makes 6 or 7NT, but only if EW never gets in with Spades, then it's pretty ugly for NS. In a suit, it would have to be H or C. So, optimal contract is 6C. How to get there? p p 2C p 2D(waiting) p 3C(saying they are real) p 3H (showing best option - and since it wasn't stated after 2c, South knows they have 4 of them), South then bids 4C, 5C or 6C... or they go to 4NT and ask for aces. North responds 5D, so South escapes at 5C, missing the small slam. West leads out the AS (figuring it would be the only chance to play it) and wins. Any lead then puts NS in control running clubs, cashing diamonds and hearts and 6 made. Note, ANY other suit led by West allows NS to make 7 by throwing off the QS loser in South on the Heart winner in North (after trump are drawn).Joseph
Let's discuss the bidding on this hand: P P 2C P 2D? P 3C P...Michele
